What is Bhai Dooj
Bhai Dooj is a joyous Indian Festival that celebrates the affectionate relationship between a brother and his sister. On this day loving sisters apply the sacred tilak on brother's forehead and pray for their long life. Brother in their turn promise to protect the sister from all adversities in life. Date of BhaiDooj is decided according to the position of the moon as the festival is to be celebrated on the 'Dooj' day in the Hindu month of Kartik which is the month of October - November according to Gregorian Calendar. 'Dooj' in Hindi means next day after the new moon night. Bhai Dooj also marks the culmination of Diwali celebrations as it is celebrated on the fifth or the last day of the Festival of Lights.
Bhaidooj is celebrated all over India though regional variations can be seen in the name of the festival and also its method of celebration. The festival of Bhai Dooj is also known as Bhai Tika, Bhai Teeka, Bhai Phota, Bhaubeej, Yamadwitheya, Bhathru Dwithiya and Bhatri Ditya.
